Thank you for considering The Magpie Review as a home for your work!

We are open year-round and accept poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction from writers of any age and experience. We also accept visual art and photography. Submissions are free of charge. 

Simultaneous submissions are welcome, but please indicate this in your submission form and notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere. We reserve First North American Electronic Rights, and all rights revert to the author upon publication, although we ask that you credit The Magpie Review as the first publisher of your work.

Our turnaround time is about a month. If we have not responded to your submission after this time, feel free to send us a query through email. Until you receive a response, please refrain from sending us a new submission. 

Unfortunately, we are not a paying publication. However, we will make sure to give a shout-out to all contributors and promote their work online!

Please note that we have a strict anti-AI policy. Literature or artwork utilizing artificial intelligence in any way will not be considered for publication. We expect all submissions to be original content. 

Additionally, we have zero tolerance for any hateful or discriminatory themes. Submissions that have been deemed to contain such views will be rejected without further consideration.

Submission Guidelines:

• Poetry: 1-4 poems. All poems will be considered individually, but must be included in a singular document. Each poem should start on a new page. 

• Prose: 1 complete piece of fiction or creative nonfiction. Please limit word count to approximately 2000 words. 

• For all written submissions: PDF files only. Size 12 text required. Times New Roman font recommended. 

• Art and Photography: Up to 5 image files. Cover art will be selected from these submissions. In your email, please include your full name and a short, third-person bio. 

• You may submit in more than one category, but please do not submit multiple times in the same category.
